Welcome to New Mums' Helper

Bringing a new baby home is one of the most exciting and happy times of our life. But it can also be one of the most challenging.

In days gone by, family and friends would always be around in the months following the birth to support the new mum and help when necessary.  But nowadays, extended family may be interstate and friends may be at work.  So it means that the new mum has to cope alone for much of the day.

Despite this, new mums do a great job because mums can do anything!  But how much easier would it be for her to have a helper?

Someone who can take care of the baby while she has a rest, takes a shower, or does some errands.  And who can encourage, support, and look after the new mum herself!  Having an extra pair of caring hands at home over the first few months allows the new mum to heal and feel more relaxed in her new role.

That is where “New Mums’ Helper” comes in.  My name is Gina Swan and I offer a unique in-home service in Brisbane.  It is dedicated to providing support for new mums and their families in the days, weeks and months after giving birth.

Over the past years, I have helped many Brisbane families.  These have included:

  • Mums without a close network of supportive and available extended family.
  • Mums recovering from a difficult birth.
  • Mums at risk of postnatal depression.
  • Multiple births
  • Babies with medical complications, including premature birth and reflux.
  • Families with other young children.

“I still remember the first time Gina came to my house and the relief I felt as soon as she walked in the door.  With no family in Brisbane I had no support to call on in those early sleep deprived weeks and was lacking confidence in my role as a new mum.  Gina was a listening ear, someone to ask questions to and hand my bundle of (screaming) joy over to so I could have some, much needed, time to myself.  She is such a warm, caring and knowledgeable person who just makes you breathe easier when there; she is not only a baby carer but also a mum carer.

It was through having the support of Gina that got me through the tough times and helped me be a better mum for taking care of myself; my only regret is not calling her sooner.  I now understand the saying "it takes a village to raise a child"... we are not meant to struggle on our own.”
